Calls Go Through the Roof as a Huge Fight Breaks Out

The busiest fire station in Prince George’s County wants to build its EMS program even further because the call volume demands it. Having two ambulances in station to respond to the call volume is not enough. The demands on the staff is taxing and increasing the personnel is needed. Many people come to the station as volunteers because they want to run calls. The stations they are currently serving does not provide them the experience they need to keep their skills up. “You won’t find a dull moment here, says one probationer. We run so much we need more people in the rotation.” On one call there was what seemed to be one hundred people in a big altercation after a funeral. Several people were shot and wounded by gunfire and we needed more ambulances. The police even had to call for backup to get the crowd and the scene under control.

When we run calls like that we know the citizens need our help. When we look into the eyes of those being treated we know they appreciate our help said Al. Especially the children. We all want to be there when children are involved because they are the most vulnerable. The most injured were removed by ambulance first from the scene and things began to calm down as police got things under control. We know we more EMTs and we hope more volunteers join us.
